Skin Exfoliation — Types, Frequency and Its Connection to Makeup
Exfoliation removes dead skin cells from the surface. Without it, skin looks dull and makeup applies unevenly.
Why Exfoliate?
Skin cells renew every 28–35 days. Dead cells accumulate on the surface, making skin rougher and duller. Exfoliation speeds up this process — skin becomes smoother and makeup applies more evenly.
Don't exfoliate before an important event. Skin is more sensitive for a few hours after. Plan exfoliation the evening before.
Types of Exfoliation
Physical: scrubs, brushes. Effective but don't apply too much pressure. Chemical: AHA (lactic, glycolic) for dry and dull skin; BHA (salicylic) for oily and acne-prone skin.
How Often?
Acid toners — 2–3 times a week. Peels — once a week. Scrubs — no more than once a week.
"Exfoliation is not a 'more is better' situation. Find your frequency." — Valeria Kushinova

Yes, choose PHA acids — the gentlest option. Start with 5% concentration, once a week.
Reduce frequency but don't stop entirely. Dull winter skin still benefits from exfoliation.
