How to Apply Mascara Correctly — Technique, Choice & Longevity Tips
Mascara is the #1 product in every woman's makeup bag. But even the most expensive mascara can smudge within an hour if applied incorrectly or chosen for the wrong lash type.
Choosing Mascara for Your Lash Type
Short lashes: lengthening formula. Sparse lashes: volumizing formula. Straight lashes: curling mascara. Sensitive eyes: hypoallergenic formula.
Before applying mascara, curl your lashes with an eyelash curler. Hold for 10 seconds at the base and 5 seconds at mid-length. This opens the eye more than almost anything else.
Application Technique
- Remove excess mascara from the wand
- Zigzag motion from root to tips
- Let the first coat dry before the second
- For lower lashes, use only the tip of the wand vertically
